lifetime of curls.

During one of my long treadmill runs this weekend, I was transported back to 2001...when the movie Princess Diaries hit theaters. Cue me--{av}--an awkward high school junior who only recently discovered the glories of leave-in conditioner and mousse.

Anne Hathaway's transformation in the Princess Diaries {and over the last decade} is nothing short of spectacular. It also made me realize something: she is my celebrity hair iconThere. I said it. I think Anne Hathaway is an absolute curl goddess!

In the last ten years, she's managed to rock my curly-girl world on a number of occasions, most recently in Love and Other Drugs. As that gawky girl with frizzy hair {from ages 5 to 15...eeks}, I am entirely jealous of the team of stylists she must have to manage her locks. If the Golden Globes were any indication, she can even manage to pull off straight hair--and do it beautifully.

I'm sure that if I had somehow managed to make it as a movie star I'd have my own team to tackle my tresses. In lieu of such treatment, I found my miracle makers back in 2001, the same year I saw the Princess Diaries:

For less than $8 a month, I have the curls I dreamed of in my early teens. Sure, they're not Anne Hathaway's immaculate locks, but they're manageable--and I've come to love them. My morning hair routine takes all of three minutes, which means I can get on with my day. I don't even know how to use a blow dryer or a straightener, though I'd love to learn just for the benefit of any daughters {cv} and I might produce. One of my biggest fears is that Pantene would discontinue these products...they've changed packaging over the years and thankfully I've always been able to track down my favorites!

So, I'll continue to admire Ms. Hathaway's curls from afar. I know I have a lifetime of curls ahead of me, but my 25-year-old self likes that prospect much more than my 16-year-old self did ;)

This discussion begs the following questions:
Who is your celebrity hair iconAnd what are your miracle makers?

Can't wait to hear your answers! I hope you don't think I'm crazy woman with a secret passion for Anne Hathaway's hair {though that may be true!}.

Have a great night, all! We're almost to Thursday! YAY! xoxo {av}

P.S. Proof I've rocked the curls from the early days on...

  1. oh sister I feel ya on the curls...my hair is heavy jumbled frizzy curly wavy mess. I have to load my hair with conditioner in the shower, and brush it while I am in there or there is no hope. Thankfully, the longer it has gotten, the heavier it has gotten, and thus the easier it is to blow dry and straighten...although i rarely do it...i stick to the side braid, and bun most days.

  2. Aww, how adorable are you!? I actually am envious of your curls! One of my bf's has curls just like yours and I wished I had them sometimes...you know, you always want what you can't have! For celebrities, Jennifer Anniston is where it's at for me...I've followed her suit from the Friends days and on. I'd love to have her stylists!

  7. Anne Hathaway is a doll, but not as lovely as you, sweet friend! My hair icon is probably Jennifer Aniston (I just sat here for a second and all I could think was "Rachel Green.")Her tresses are always so shiny without being greasy! An impossible feat!

  9. It's weird, my hair was stick straight until I hit 6th grade. Then I was just a mess of unmanageable frizz. After high school, I straightened my hair every single day. Then one day I tried Bedhead's Curls Rock products & stopped fighting it. I love those products!

  10. I, too, am a curly girl, but it took me much longer to figure out how to manage them- I didn't discover bumble and bumble curl creme until COLLEGE! That said, it's pretty expensive- I might have to try pantene products next time.

And if Anne Hathaway has curly hair in Love and Other Drugs, then I DEFINITELY have to see it!

  13. OOh my gosh, you were too cute! I've only recently put down the straightening iron and started embracing my curly hair, so I'd love all and any product recommendations. I'll definitely try out the mousse and detangler!

  14. Anne Hathaway was the inspiration for my last haircut! Her shoulder-length bob was absolutely fabulous. I brought in a picture of it styled wavy and styled straight and said I wanted my hair to be able to transition as easily. One of my fave haircuts to date :)

  15. First off, you were seriously the most adorable child! That picture makes me melt!

I'm also a curly girl and I feel like I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with them. I use those same Pantene products, but I'm always searching for a miracle treatment that will completely de-frizz. Anne Hathaway is such great hair inspiration!

  19. What a nice picture of you!! I like curly hair but I always straighten mine because its more manageable and I'm too busy to make time to comb it when it's curly. My celebrity hair crush is Megan Fox, I love her straight black long hair.

  23. What a PRECIOUS photo of you as a little kiddo!! :-D Anne Hathaway is amazing (Did you hear she's going to be catwoman in the next Batman movies??) My hair idol is Jen Anniston. I love her silky layers that are all in the right place at the right time. LOVE!

  25. I have curly curly hair too! And I'll admit it, at 30+ years old, I've never felt truly comfortable with them. Right now I use a spray leave in conditioner/ detangler and then a smoothing cream by Nivea. It loosens the curl a bit making them a bit more relaxed and smooth. So far it's the best product I've found and the funny thing is, it only costs €4! After years of buying really expensive products, I find my favorite and it only costs €4!!!

  26. My curl twin!! I'm so proud of you for finding a way to manage your curls... I never was able to unfortunately. So I am a slave to the flat iron. Sigh. I try to only straight my hair once or twice a week, and leave it curly, but pull it up into a bun once or twice a week. My godsend hair product is Moroccan Oil. Amazinggggness in a bottle. xoxo
