dancing shoes.

I stand a whopping 5 foot 3 inches tall. By most standards, I'm short. I hated it as a kid. My grandfather always told me to tell people I was "vertically challenged." Almost two decades later, I have finally come to accept my stature. One would think, however, that I would make up for this shortfall with heels. The reality is that I wear heels two {maybe three} times a month. I'm on the klutzy side, so heels are a slight hazard to my running career ;) As a result, I've become a HUGE fan of ballet flats.

I stumbled upon Pretty Ballerinas via my latest copy of People StyleWatch--and I'm so glad I did! {I may be a little late to the party though...they've been around since 1918!} Pretty Ballerinas offer so many exquisite flats that I had a tough time narrowing down what I wanted to share with all of you. In an attempt to showcase their collection, here are a few that caught my eye...

With Valentine's Day less than a month away, how perfect would this first pair be for a cozy date night? And my little nautical-loving heart swooned over this striped pair...how appropriate would these be for a trip down down the Cape this summer?

I love the ruffles on these purple stunners--and who can argue with these black-and-white quilted ballerinas? {Coincidentally, they look very similar to a pair I featured in my second edition of Friday's Fancies, but I'd argue this pair is cuter!}

Though I'm not a huge fan of snakeskin, I couldn't help but love this mint green. They'd transition nicely into the spring too! As my profile reveals, I already rock the glittery flats, but I'd love to add these to my repertoire.

In 2004, I owned a pair of Old Navy zebra flats {that seem to have resurfaced this season!}. I loved how they jazzed up an outfit. As of late, I have wanted to unleash some sort of animal in my shoe wardrobe--and this pair could definitely help me do that. I've also always had a thing for loafers {am I 70?} and I loved how pair retained the ballet look with just a hint of a loafer.

Pretty Ballerinas have a new flagship store in Manhattan--which I hope to hit on a future visit to NYC! Until then, I can admire their wares on their {very user-friendly} website. Should they not have a particular size you need, they have allow you to sign up for an alert when a pair you like becomes available. Why doesn't everyone do that?!

I wish I had somewhere to rock these "dancing shoes" tonigh. We're seeing In The Heights, but I doubt it involves dancing in my seat ;) Do you have any favorites? That nautical pair ranks as my favorite {for today at least!}.

Hope you all have a fantastic Saturday night--can't wait to catch up on
all my favorite blogs tomorrow! Until then, xoxo {av}

    I'm 5'2" and wear flats almost always. One of my friends always tells me I like to "revel" in my shortness. ;)

  11. I'm a whopping 3" taller than you & live in Ballet Flats, most comfortable shoe ever, especially after pregnacy times 4 children, your feet change!! My husband will always be 7" taller than me & now our children are starting to take over me. I have lived a fulfilling life not being particularly tall. Love Posie

  18. I love these, specially #6, 7, 8. I think most girls have height issues at some point. I am 5'5" and considered that abnormally tall during my teenage years. As a teenager, people used to think I was older than my oldest sister and that drove me nuts but I have accepted my height and I am more than happy with it.

  19. I am so a flats girl too. I have very few pairs of comfortable heels, and it seems every time I see a pair of heels I like they have 3 inch heels...I'm already 5'7" and don't need to look like a giant thank you. So flats are where it's at :) LOVE the nautical ones, perfect for spring in Little Rhody!

  20. I just pulled the whole: 'ooh that one is my favorite, oh no THAT one is my favorite..' so I will settle it: i love/want them all. :) great find! My husband is 6'6" so you would think I would live in heels, but I barely wear them. I am a serious sucker for flats.
