instax.

I have to admit to a little love affair that I've had over the last year. {Don't worry--my husband and I are fine!} It's with my Fuji Instax camera...i.e. the "new" Polaroid-esque camera on the market. I first heard about the Instax camera via my ever-fabulous wedding photographer when trying to come up with something fun for our guestbook. We invested in an Instax camera of our own a few months before the wedding...and I've been borderline obsessed ever since. I opted for the biggest of the Instax models, the 210, because it produces slightly larger photos.

Instax cameras produce those lovely vintage-y photos which always make my heart sing. I wanted to have a guestbook at the wedding which would make us smile 20--even 50--years from now. Let me tell you, the guestbook went over fabulously! Our guests simply took a quick snapshot in front of a vintage map {I'll share photos soon!}, slid it into the guestbook and signed that page. It turned out perfectly! We even used the same set-up at our second celebration in July.

With this love affair in mind, I have to show you a few snapshots from our European honeymoon :)

If anyone remembers the volcanic ash travel chaos this past April, you'll realize that happened right smack dab in the middle of our "lune de miel" {excuse my mumbly French}. The picture above was taken about 4 hours before we found out our flight home was cancelled. I just love the judgment from the girls on the bench! ;)

{cv} always made fun of me for packing this enormous camera while we galavanted around Paris. He snickered every time I pulled it out, but I still carried it with pride. It took up my entire medium-sized Longchamp bag. I didn't mind. I have some unforgettable sights on film. I know every photo captures a moment in time, but with the Instax, they seem a little more romantic. Or whimsical. Or something!

I will never complain about the volcanic ash because it extended our honeymoon by four days. Four blissful, wonderful days. We were able to see so much more as a result. We took an incredible day trip to the Normandy beaches, which was quite an experience. We even got to add a new country to {cv}'s travel résumé--Italy--because they had to reroute our flight back to New England through Rome.

This isn't necessarily the best picture of either of us {the husband looks like he's missing a tooth--he's not!}, but it's the last photo I took on our honeymoon. sigh.

I saw my dear Instax in two very public places recently and was decidedly a little hurt that my love affair had been exposed. I got an Urban Outfitters catalog {amongst all the others I receive!} and the Instax graced the back cover...though they were charging almost triple what I paid for ours on UniquePhoto. It also popped up on a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy {as seen below}.

I knew I had to come clean about this love affair with all of you ;) More to come about our honeymoon in future posts!

Hope your week is going well! xoxo {av}

  2. Oh, what a divine little love affair you've been carrying on! I would absolutely love an Instax, but I am the world's least responsible photo taker, and it would just lay dusty in a drawer until I couldn't buy the film anymore!

Our honeymoon got delayed an extra day, too! All because of a bird hitting the plane! LOL! It was nice to have a FREE extra day in paradise though!!

  11. A lot of people I know have this camera, and they love it! Sadly, I don't think I could afford it on a college girl budget, but I definitely plan on getting a nicer camera before I study abroad!

  16. I have been looking for a good camera to get, mine is just horrible. My husband and I traveled to Europe for our honeymoon, too! But - lucky for us - it was a year ago in September, so we didn't have the interruption of Iceland. These are such great pictures!
