three years ago.

I can't really believe it, but three years ago today, {cv} and I officially ended our long distance days and moved into our little loft apartment in Providence. It feels a little like yesterday, but it also feels like a lifetime ago. After years spent in Georgetown townhouses and citified apartments, we opted for this space because we knew it would be different than any space we'd ever buy. It may not have all the finishes we wanted, but it works beautifully for what we needed {then and now}...

This little anniversary had me thinking back to the absolute joy of walking in our apartment that day with {cv} to know we'd never have to travel to one another again. It was amazing to see the blank canvas to create what we wanted. I reveled in knowing we would no longer be buying two of everything--and that we could finally start our life together.

It is so strange to look at these pictures today. This space didn't hold any memories then but it holds so many today. With our friends and family. With our kittens {turned cats}. With each other.

This little loft will always have a soft spot in my heart, even if I simply cannot wait to get into our house next year. Having actual rooms--rather than one huge space--is such a novel concept, though I'll never forget how it forced us to learn about that much more about each other. Honestly, every couple should be forced to live in a space with no doors {with the exception of the bathrooms, of course!} ;)

You may not see many photos of our apartment as it looks today, except little instagram peeks here + there, because we're maxed out. {Read: we have a house full of wonderful wedding gifts in an apartment-sized space!} In the very least, it is your little peek to imagine me sitting on our couch writing blog posts. It is also encouragement for those of you who aren't done with your long distance days to know it will end one day. Thanks for helping us "celebrate" this little anniversary!

  2. I'm jealous of your apartment! I wanted to live there, but it was just to far since I still work in Mystic...we ended up in Coventry/West Greenwich. My husband and I will officially be ending any long distance on July4, it's his last day in the military, whoo!

  3. I want to live in a loft! Your apartment looks so cool. And I didn't know you lived in Providence--my sister just visited there a week ago and said it was the best city in America.

  4. I love this space! That's so smart of you to live in a place like that while you're renting, because you're right - the likelihood of buying a loft is slim to none. I can't wait to see your house even though that's little ways away! And congrats on your no-more-long-distance anniversary! :)

  7. That looks like a really cool space, and yes, very different from anything in DC! When Andrew and I moved to Chicago from DC, we went from two of everything to squeezing everything in one apartment! We definitely celebrated our move this year when we moved to our current loft apartment across town!

  10. So, so exciting! My boyfriend and I are moving in together in Boston this September and I can't wait to be celebrating an anniversary of not living out of a bag. And MAJOR kudos to you for getting through living in a studio - we looked at one when we were trying to find a place and I just don't think I could handle it!

  11. It's so encouraging to read your posts like this! My boyfriend and I are doing the long-distance dance now (Kansas to Canada) and I CANNOT WAIT for the day we will be in the same country, state & city! Your posts help me know that I am not the only one out there who had to deal with Skype & international texting plans! So for that I thank and CONGRATULATE you on your special anniversary!

  13. Happy move in anniversary!!
My fiance and I live in a loft right now.. I never thought about the fact that we don't have doors. Except for when our cat tries to sleep in the bed... But now that you say it is is weird to live in a place with no doors. Like getting in an argument and needing your cool off time.. one of us goes upstairs, the other downstairs..but I always wish there was doors during that time! LOL

  20. My new house is a loft, so I'm definitely getting used to the 'no doors' thing. It bring intimacy in your marriage to a whole other level :)
