paper {anniversary}.

{love struck calendar - days of the week calendar - blurb

Though I really can't believe it, we are roughly three weeks from our first wedding anniversary!
{cv} and I discussed that our first anniversary is also our "paper" anniversary, if you go by the traditional standards. I was bummed to discover that the sapphire anniversary wasn't until the 45th or the emerald anniversary until the 55th! Maybe we could break the rules a little bit down the line...God-willing, we'll both live to see 2055 and 2065, but there are no guarantees--right? ;)

Making the choice on what to get {cv} is proving to be quite difficult and I wanted to enlist your help!

Should I create a photo calendar with photos from our first year of marriage?
Or should I do the same with a photo book?

Can't wait to hear your thoughts! I loved all your input yesterday on IKEA! Just so you know: your comments make me smile all. day. long. Have a wonderful Wednesday! xoxo {av}

If this post has you itching to make a calendar of your own, don't sweat--you can!

  2. I love the book idea... just because it's so nice to keep on your coffee table in the future and can be displayed for longer than a year - unless you just want to make it a tradition to do a calender every year - we do that with my Gpa every year for his bday and he loves it :)

  3. I would think you already have a photo album, right? I like the calendar idea. It's something he can put in his office to make him smile. Guys aren't really the types to put picture frames every where, so the calendar is a great way for him to have pictures of his beautiful wife!

  4. Since we got married in Jamaica, I decided to get all of our photos on a CD instead of getting albums. I used blurb to make my parents an album (haven't made ours yet) and it turned out beautifully. Just give yourself some time if you want to do this. It gives you a lot of creative freedom (not like the standard layouts on kodak gallery) and if you are crazy like me you will want it to be perfect.

  5. I would do a photo book, because you could display that in your living or where ever in your house year after year. It would be so cute, and you could easily look through all the pictures whenever you wanted to! Happy almost anniversary, AV!

  9. A friend of mine has done a photo book of the first year of their life, and then did a photo book of the first year of their life once they had a child. It was neat to look back through for me, so I'm sure it would be nice to look back at down the road and say "remember when"?
Plus, then you could do like they did and make a book of the first year of your life with baby whenever that day comes along!

  10. Photo book. I feel that printed photos are kind of going out of style. So it would be fun to pull out a photo book each year documenting the journey.

  11. Hmmmmm, I think both options are great! My hubby actually gave me a photobook for our 1st anniversary and it was super sweet. I do love the calendar idea though. I don't know, I'm torn!

  13. While I think both would be great, I vote for the photobook! I made Blurb books for my parents and in-laws of our wedding and they turned out great!

  14. i like the calendar idea, because each month could feature a special picture of a memory, moment, or event that you both took part in that month. and he would be for sure to look at it everyday if its hung in his office or some place he frequents regularly.

if hes anything like my mister a photo book may get looked at a few times then put aside. (just sayin.)

  15. um wow just saw that your wedding was in Martha's Mag- thats freaking awesome! I like the photobook idea. Maybe each year you could make one so over the years you can show your kids how cool you were :)

  19. Of course - I should have known that my April wedding buddy is thinking about this just as I am. :) I have been keeping the paper theme in mind, and since we have already printed photos and framed them, and made a book (highly recommend blurb, but yes give yourself time to do it!), I am going the route of tickets (paper, right?!) to his favorite team when they come to Baltimore. I hope he likes it, this anniversary gift thing is hard - I need to get the hang of it!

I think a calendar would be super cute - I make one for my mom and correspond the months with what we were doing that month the previous year. It is so fun to remember and see what's changed in a year!! Good luck!

  20. How exciting! You can't go wrong with either, but I think a calendar would be so cute!

  21. i think a calendar is a wonderful idea because it is not only like a picture album, but it also can be useful and hung in an office or a room around the house.

  22. Would he use the calendar? If so, then I would totally do that, as it will give him something to look at on a regular basis that reminds him of you. But, if he wouldn't necessarily put the calendar out then I would go with the photobook. While I won't get looked at all the time, it will be nice to have on the coffee table and share with each other and also with people who come to visit. You also might feel less inclined to look at the calendar and save it after the year is over. So, I think I vote for the book.

I think it's sweet that you're doing by the suggested gifts list. I think when I get married I will suggest we do that as well. :)

  23. Definitely the photo book! You will have it forever. I love the calendar, too. My sister and I have got my parents calendars with our pictures for the past couple of Christmas, and they love it.

  24. Hmm I agree with Ashton. Definitely the photo book because you'll have it forever. Also I don't know if I'd want to stare at a picture of myself every day when checking my meetings/ appointments for the day.
Congrats on the 1 year mark!

  25. I think the book would be sweet! & you could leave blank spots to write hand written notes (song lyrics, funny stories, etc). Our 1yr is in June & I am already feverishly trying to figure out what to get my husband.

  26. The book for sure! My hubby got me a photo book for our 1st Anniversary that we just celebrated in January and it was the most special thing ever! He included pictures from our first year of marriage and it's sitting on our coffee table. I cherish it so much :)

  27. I love the book idea.. it makes a great coffee table conversation piece with guests!

  28. I love the Calendar! You will have it all year round. I made a book for our "years of dating" and its just sitting on the bookshelf, never looked at.

  29. The photo book! We make one for every vacation and look at them all the time! Happy almost anniversary :)

  30. a photo calendar could be super cute, and you could make two copies so you guys could each hang it up at work. Ya know a daily reminder of lovin'. And each pic could relate to that month!!

  33. I vote for the photo book!! congrats :)

  34. i think i prefer the little book idea. it lasts longer :) and you can always keep it on a book self to reminisce. Cute ideas and a BIG congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  35. First of all, I just LOVE your blog, especially because you're a fellow "long distanc-er." :)

I like the book idea because I think it'll last longer. I mean, you could keep the caldender around even after the year is over, but with the book, it will seem like that's it's purpose. To see pictures, not to see months. Can't wait to see what you choose!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Calendar idea is so great! Both ideas are awesome really (I might even steal on of these ideas :) Can't wait to see which one you decide on.

  37. So my first "paper" anniversary is in a month! I can't believe it either. I decided to get my hubby season tickets to the local theater company. Paper tickets!! I think you should do the book :)

  40. I love the photo book idea! It's something you can keep forever & keep looking at over & over again!

  41. Naturally I lean towards a photobook because it lasts longer than a year (like a calendar) BUT, i think a calendar would be looked at more-hah. Sorry, I am no help!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think the idea is darling, and I'm with the group-a photo book would be beautiful. You'll be able to enjoy it for always, as opposed to proudly displaying it for one calendar year and then looking like a loon when you keep it hanging up in the kitchen!

  43. I would say a photobook as it will last longer!
