happy little nooks.

Hello again! I promised to keep you in the loop about our building process, so here is the latest update: I am happy to report we are now on round two of the floor plans for our new home :) From these early drafts, I know one of my favorite spaces in our future house will be the nook right off of our kitchen. {cv} and I are debating what purpose this precious space will serve. With the sizable island we have planned, part of me would like for the nook to be a cozy place to read in the morning light. {The nook will face the east, so it would be perfect!} Here are a few pieces of inspiration I found for the eat-in option:

{top row: left | right ~ middle row: left | middle | right ~ bottom row: left | right}

I have fond memories of mornings spent eating cereal in my grandparents' breakfast nook down in Hilton Head. It had a sweet window seat, plenty of windows, and hydrangeas outside the window. In a word, it was perfect. Needless to say, however we decide to use the nook, I can't wait for it! Little peeks at our house plans definitely make my operation spending freeze much easier to bear.

I am so excited for another round of Friday's Fancies! If you want to join in, the theme for tomorrow is March Madness, though you could really create any outfit you'd like without worrying about the pricetags. Should you have any questions, please email me :) Many thanks for all your input today! You make this overwhelming building process much less scary with your encouragement and advice, so thank you.
Until tomorrow...

  1. My goodness, your new home is going to have so many beautiful details! I love the idea of an eat-in nook, and with the right window seating could imagine getting comfy well beyond breakfast. The top right photo gets my vote :)

  2. I love the little, eat-in nook because it can double as both a breakfast spot, as well as a reading area--those benches definitley look comfy enough to get lost in a book!:)

  4. i think if you did the bench you could totally make it both!

  5. Seems like the one on the top right could be a bit of both. I would personally want to be able to do both, and quite a few of those look like they would be good for reading and eating.

  6. I love the top right - and I agree with Meghan and some of the other comments that it could be both. The top right is the best, IMO, because of the tufted bench - it looks so comfy and gorgeous.

  7. I am a big fan of the eat-in nooks! I would love to have one in my house surrounded by big windows with a built-in, plush bench! I really like the middle picture with the huge windows and built in shelves. Good luck with the building project and floor plans!

  9. I would say top right as well! I think a reading nook is great because it's so versatile. You can easily move the table to the nook to make it into an eating area. I love multifunction!

  12. wow, it is so exciting that you're building your own home! that is definitely a future dream of mine. i think it would be fab if the nook could combine a comfy bench for reading and also a table for eating at. that way, you could also work from your laptop in the morning light :) have a great day xx

  14. I'm loving the top right with the tufted seat and back cushions! The only thing it's missing (for me) is a pendant fixture, but that's something you can add! Love all the spaces you posted!

  15. My vote is for an eat-in nook, but one with lots of comfy pillows so you can snuggle up with a cup of coffee in the morning. You could also plan for a window seat somewhere else in the house, right? ;) Top right and middle are my favorites!

  17. I don't see why you can't have it be for both! With the right cushy, cozy window seat, you could sit there in the morning light for hours eating breakfast, reading a book, sipping tea, doing a crossword, catching up on blogs ... that top right photo looks like the space could do both if you just nudge the table out just a bit.

  26. I vote reading nook :) all the options are perfect! Still, I don't think there's anything better than relaxing and reading by natural sunlight in the morning. Puts me in the best mood for the rest of the day!

  27. Why not use it for both? They all look cozy either way! A bench, pillows, light streaming in — pretty sure I'd never want to leave. All you need is to convince {cv} to replenish your food and books and you'll have it made!

  28. I love these!! Great choices! I have an area in our house that I am definitely planning on turning into a breakfast nook soon! I think you can definitely use it for both! xoxo

  30. All of your inspiration shots could be used for both reading and dining! I say go for both! Just make the bench seat more on the comfortable side!!

  31. I have been Obsessed with nooks lately! Both reading nooks and eating nooks. Love them all. I want both for my house!

  32. I adore the look of little built-in banquettes with comfy pillows & a nice view out of a window. As long as you make your bench seat comfy with cushions & pillows, who's to say you can't have the best of both worlds?? An eat-in nook AND a reading spot. ;) I look forward to watching it all come along.

See you tomorrow morning for Friday's Fancies!

  35. Oh goodness. That is a toughy. I would say a reading nook only because it is hard for more than three people to eat at most breakfast nooks.
