it's getting real.

It's been a long day coming, but...

Though we won't get to walk into the doors of our new house, we will officially become landowners in the Ocean State! Since {cv} and I have never been homeowners, it all feels pretty surreal. We have been drawing up plans for months now and this is one {big} step toward making that dream home a reality :) {cv} and I hope to break ground early next spring, giving us plenty of time in the winter months to pick out some of the smaller details. While it will be a labor-intensive process, it will be worth it to finally walk across our wrap-around porch into our front door for years to come.

For those of you who have done this before: how dressy do I need to be for the closing? Does it take a long time? Give it to this girl straight ;) Many thanks for all of your encouragement along the way--the process is really just beginning and I'm so excited to have you all along for the ride!

P.S. Don't forget that Friday's Fancies is all about costume prep tomorrow...I'm so excited to see what you make! I have mine ready and I'm itching to share it ;) See you at midnight!

  1. So exciting!!!!!!! I remember when we were closing on our house in Florida... I was 8 and sat under the conference table practicing cursive in a workbook. HA!

  2. Get ready for your hand to hurt! I knew a head of time I'd have to sign a lot of papers, but even I completely under estimated how many things I had to sign. Weirdest moment for me was when I had to sign all the different variations of my name on one piece of paper. I had to sign using my maiden name and it completely threw me because I hadn't signed that bad boy in quite some time!

  3. CONGRATS!!! My boyfriend and I just bought a house. No need to dress up much for closing - but you'll be signing A LOT of papers and going through each one. It takes a while.. we were there for a couple hours! As first-time homeowners, too - I know the feeling of excitement! Still have it though we've already moved in. It's so great to have a place that you can make your own!

  19. I closed long-distance, meaning I signed all the papers and scanned them back through email for our realtor (but how appropriate for your blog!). You can dress casually--I babysat my nephew during a closing 6 years ago, and everyone was in jeans. Good luck and congratulations!

  22. Wow! How exciting, nerve racking, scary, fun, and all the other emotions that are involved in house purchasing. What a fun time in y'alls life now. My husband and I will be home owners very soon...Nov 7 to be exact. It happened so quickly I'm still in shock that we'll be getting our first house together in a matter of weeks! I'm stressing now about decorating it. People keep telling me it won't happen over night and to take my time. I want to do the opposite though. Ha. Good luck av and I can't wait to hear how things progress.

  30. Congrats!!! My biggest tip is to stretch out your wrist and hand before going. You'll be signing your name and initials A LOT! As for dress code, I wore a button down with a casual skirt. John wore jeans and a casual button down. If everything in clean, it should only take a few hours.
