It's been a long day coming, but...
Though we won't get to walk into the doors of our new house, we will officially become landowners in the Ocean State! Since {cv} and I have never been homeowners, it all feels pretty surreal. We have been drawing up plans for months now and this is one {big} step toward making that dream home a reality :) {cv} and I hope to break ground early next spring, giving us plenty of time in the winter months to pick out some of the smaller details. While it will be a labor-intensive process, it will be worth it to finally walk across our wrap-around porch into our front door for years to come.
For those of you who have done this before: how dressy do I need to be for the closing? Does it take a long time? Give it to this girl straight ;) Many thanks for all of your encouragement along the way--the process is really just beginning and I'm so excited to have you all along for the ride!
P.S. Don't forget that Friday's Fancies is all about costume prep tomorrow...I'm so excited to see what you make! I have mine ready and I'm itching to share it ;) See you at midnight!
So exciting!!!!!!! I remember when we were closing on our house in Florida... I was 8 and sat under the conference table practicing cursive in a workbook. HA!
ReplyDeleteGet ready for your hand to hurt! I knew a head of time I'd have to sign a lot of papers, but even I completely under estimated how many things I had to sign. Weirdest moment for me was when I had to sign all the different variations of my name on one piece of paper. I had to sign using my maiden name and it completely threw me because I hadn't signed that bad boy in quite some time!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS!!! My boyfriend and I just bought a house. No need to dress up much for closing - but you'll be signing A LOT of papers and going through each one. It takes a while.. we were there for a couple hours! As first-time homeowners, too - I know the feeling of excitement! Still have it though we've already moved in. It's so great to have a place that you can make your own!

I wore jeans and it took around an hour and a half I think?? There is a lot of paperwork!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything!! I'm sure it's going to be an exciting, scary, semi stressful, but fun experience!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting, congrats!!! I didn't dress up that much really, you're just going to sign papers, lots of them! ;)
ReplyDeleteyayy!! so exciting :) We just closed on our first home at the end of August, what a process! The actual 'closing' took around an hour, it was mostly just signing our lives away and all that. DRESS UP! And take pictures, it'll be so worth it afterwards :) Have a great day and Congratulations!!

ReplyDeleteEekk! So exciting! My fiance and I close on a house on Monday! He is the lucky one who gets to live there until we get married, but it is still so exciting! Best of luck tomorrow!! Can't wait to see your house in all its different stages!
ReplyDeleteGirl, just be prepared to sign until your hand cramps - but then you can go get a mani and a hand massage to celebrate! :)
ReplyDeleteYAYY congrats!! I surprised my parents at the closing of their new house.... or also just property back then. I remember dress being business casual!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! This is incredibly exciting, and I'm so happy for you and {cv}. I have never been through this, but I'd say business casual would be a safe bet for attire. Best of luck! :)
ReplyDeletethis is so exciting!! i can't wait to follow along with your journey :) xx
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! That is so fantastic and so exciting!! Best of Luck!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with closing! My bf and I are buying our first condo, and our closing is in December! As far as dressing, I think you should be fine with business casual :)
ReplyDeletecongrats! our closing is also tomorrow! :) i plan on wearing business casual and we were advised to plan for 3 hours but that it would most likely be closer to just 2 hours!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! We purchased our first house together last year! Be prepared to sign papers for a good 45 minutes to an hour! And take pictures! I took only one of Luke signing our papers - but I wish we had taken more!
ReplyDeletecongrats! and good luck with your closing! my dad practices residential real estate law and i have spent quite a few summers helping him out... be ready to sign a bunch of papers. and you can dress casually (jeans are okay). congrats again!
ReplyDeleteI closed long-distance, meaning I signed all the papers and scanned them back through email for our realtor (but how appropriate for your blog!). You can dress casually--I babysat my nephew during a closing 6 years ago, and everyone was in jeans. Good luck and congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Homeownership is awesome. Especially the monthly mortgage payments. Just kidding... that sucks. But its better to own than rent if you can manage to do it. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! So very exciting!!
ReplyDeleteWow! How exciting, nerve racking, scary, fun, and all the other emotions that are involved in house purchasing. What a fun time in y'alls life now. My husband and I will be home owners very soon...Nov 7 to be exact. It happened so quickly I'm still in shock that we'll be getting our first house together in a matter of weeks! I'm stressing now about decorating it. People keep telling me it won't happen over night and to take my time. I want to do the opposite though. Ha. Good luck av and I can't wait to hear how things progress.
ReplyDeleteYay! That means it today. SUCH a gorgeous piece of property. Getting giddy just thinking about all the amazing things that'll happen in that house. (:
ReplyDeleteYay! I went to the closing when I moved to Iowa from Cleveland; I think my mom just wore nice pants and a blouse. :)
ReplyDeletecongratulations on you & {cv}'s landownership! i cannot wait to follow along as y'all break ground on your house - i'm excited for y'all.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS AV!!! This is so exciting... Almost time x
ReplyDeleteYeah!!! I am so excited for you!! Cant wait to see the pics:)
ReplyDeleteHooray! congrats - you enjoy every minutes spending time in your home!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Owning a home is a privilege and such a responsibility. Enjoy it!! Can't wait to see all the fabulous things you do with your space.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! My biggest tip is to stretch out your wrist and hand before going. You'll be signing your name and initials A LOT! As for dress code, I wore a button down with a casual skirt. John wore jeans and a casual button down. If everything in clean, it should only take a few hours.
ReplyDeletecongratulations! can't wait to see what you come up with!
